Fall Fireplace

Hi everyone,

The weather in Phoenix has finally cooled down so that means I’m coming out of hibernation.

I used all of my thrifted items to transition into Fall, except for that Cinderella pumpkin which set me back $10!  I really should’ve gone with faux but it is nice to have some real ones every now and then!

The urn I used weighs a ton and I just added a green plant I had sitting around, then I added faux greenery and pheasant feathers to create a floral piece.

I love added Fall pieces throughout the house, even if it’s still 80 degrees outside!  Do you go all out with your Fall decor?

Christmas Home Tour 2017 – Fireplace

Hi everyone,

Today I’m sharing how I decorated our family room fireplace for the holidays.

Every year I use fresh garland and hate dealing with the dried needles so I decided to end my pain and get some faux garland this year.

I bought 2 strands of this garland from Hobby Lobby.  It’s thick and full of different types of greenery.  Although it was 50% off it was still pretty pricey at $40.  I decided to go for it since I can use it year after year.  I still added sprigs of red berries to add some color.

Normally, I try not to buy any Christmas decor until after Christmas but I stopped into Kirklands and couldn’t pass up the deal on these two lanterns.  They were on sale for $18 each AND they came with the battery operated candles!  I’ve had my eye on the lanterns from Pottery Barn which are very similar to these and there’s no way I could’ve bought two of theirs for the price I paid for these two and candles, well, you can forget that.

I have several sheepskins throughout the house and this one I have on the hearth I’ve had since my oldest was an infant.  Here’s 23 years old now and  I’d say I got my cost per use on this one! ha ha

If you remember my fireplace from last year, you’ll remember this elk print.  I wanted a big picture for the fireplace during the winter and didn’t want to break the bank.  I found a canvas print  (painted with pink cactus) at Goodwill for $24 and had my friend Stephanie paint this elk on it.  It makes a pretty big statement on the fireplace and I love it!  You can see more of the Elk print HERE.

Here in Phoenix, it’s been nearly 80 degrees every day since forever and there’s no way we can use the fireplace but at least it looks pretty and festive!

HUGE Deer Print for my Christmas Fireplace

This year the theme for my Christmas decor was inspired by some twig deer I found at Pottery Barn. (See Post HERE)  I wanted something cozy and rustic and I feeling that I was in the high country in Colorado.

I needed something above the fireplace mantle to pull the entire theme together.  While I was browsing Goodwill looking for anything to inspire me, I came across this huge southwest painted canvas print.  I know this doesn’t scream cozy cabin but it had size on it’s side and the price was right, $24.99!  I had a 20 percent off coupon and my print came out to $19.99.  There’s no way I could ever walk away with a canvas of this enormity for that price at a craft supply store.

I was not blessed with an artistic ability so I handed the canvas off to my friend, Stephanie, along with an inspirational photo of a deer and requested the color palette to be cream and white, along with some browns and grays.

A couple days later, she delivered!

I had my new print in my possession and as always, she did an amazing job!

It’s the perfect size and I love it’s simplicity and it’s a show piece in my family room.

Spring Decor Fireplace

The beautiful weather we have been having here in Phoenix has motivated me to update my fireplace for Spring.

I started with the framed monogram as the focal point. The framed print from Goodwill was originally gold and I changed it up a bit.

I found these new moss balls at Redesign by Goodwill. Not only did I like their quality, I loved their price!

 

I love to add greenery inside my home, whether silk or real, so I grabbed my lavender party turned galvanized tub, added some burlap around it for texture, then filled it with some low maintenance real plants.

With just a few easy switches with finds from Goodwill my fireplace looks clean and simple and is fit for Spring!

Rustic Fireplace Decor

The fireplace in my family room is decorated for winter. ha ha, winter. It’s Phoenix. Here’s my winter fireplace, just pretend I live in Colorado.

The inspiration for the rustic winter theme was the tree from Goodwill. Last year I used the tree outside but this year, because I can never use the same thing in the same location twice, I brought it over to the fireplace.

Recently, I happened upon the moose at Goodwill and thought it would go perfectly with my theme and the lone tree sitting at the fireplace waiting for inspiration to strike. They were both great finds from Goodwill of Central Arizona.

Next, I turned to things I had in my home. A galvanized bucket, an old window frame and a small throw, that once belonged to my grandmother, were all things I had from my mom’s home in Colorado. Throw in a live wreath, some logs and pinecones and my fireplace is perfect. Perfect. for a home in colder weather.

There’s my fireplace and here’s to your (winter) day, no matter what the weather!

Christmas Home Tour 2017 – Master Bedroom

I’m adding my Master Bedroom to my Home Tour for Christmas along with my room model, Stevie, our Golden Retriever.

For this room, I like to keep things simple all year round.  When I walk into my bedroom I want it whisper peace and calm, we don’t even have a television in here! There are some big windows in here and they let in a lot of natural light and I love it, I rarely clothes the curtains.

 I have add a few simple touches to  keep in the spirit of the season.  I hope to one day have a Christmas tree in here too!  I’ve been waiting for the right one to come along from Goodwill or my thrifting adventures.

Do you have a tree in your bedroom? Do you decorate your bedroom for Christmas?  Questions for you, I’ve got them.

The color and tones of this room are all neutral so when I add a bit of red from the pillowcase and pillows, it really stands out!

I have many, many fake pine trees in my Christmas decoration arsenal,  so this year I brought two in here, they’re perfect for the nightstands.  I love trees because they are simple and fill up a lot of space, they can be dressed up or kept plain and either way they are perfect for a winter scene.

I love fur blankets and fur rugs, so of course I had to add a fur throw blanket in here.  Up until last night we’ve slept with a coverlet but the temps. went down and we had to bring out the big guns and use the down filled duvet.  This is Arizona so it won’t last long so I love the cooler weather.  We also have a fireplace, which only get a few uses each year,  but adds a touch of elegance to the room and I LOVE it!

Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant – My 5-Star Review

Last month the weather in Arizona had been quite chilly – in the 50’s!  I would turn up the heater, light the fireplace,  bundle up and was wear my fuzzy socks non-stop.  I shouldn’t tell people this but I even wore a parka while out and about! Brrrr

I know, I know what you’re saying, that’s Spring like weather to you, but honestly, I admit,  I’m a wimp. I grew up in Colorado and am just as shocked as you!

My cold days have come to an end, we are now in the 70’s and next week, we’ll be in the the 80’s!  I have to step up my sunny weather game and that means getting a pedicure, (more) shaving , and adding a deodorant I can trust.

 

Today I’m excited to partner with Dove to try their Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant!  I grew up using Dove and still turn to them today, I was very excited to try a Dove product I had never used before.

 

I take my Golden Retriever, Stevie, for daily walks, during the middle of the day to stay warm.  I wear a few layers but once I get moving, those layers come off.  She loves to bark and chase ducks so I get my share of exercise while keeping up with her and this antiperspirant has exceeded the odor and wetness protection I need.  Thanks goodness, because I always meet up with a neighbor or two on the way home and now I have the confidence, of not stinking, to stop and chat.

After wearing this antiperspirant for a few days I also noticed I had softer and smoother underarms!  It has skin care benefits of Dove 1/4 Moisturizers and NutriumMoisture which translates to me as moisture for my skin.  In this dry Arizona desert it’s just what I need!  I’m going to wear all the summery sleeveless tops and talk to my neighbors without a second thought.  What a bonus!

Spring is in the Air

I always say there’s only two season in Phoenix, Spring and Summer.

I grew up in Colorado with the snow and freezing temperatures so when we have “winter”

here in Phoenix, it’s not what I define as winter, it’s more like spring to me. Also, summer

in Colorado is definetly like spring in Phoenix. You still need sweatshirts on a summer night

where I grew up and it’s fabulous, just like Arizona in spring.

Anyway, that pretty much sums up what spring is like for me so to go with that long

description, ha ha, here’s some spring decor in my House of Goodwill.

The fireplace in the family got an update with some flowers and greenery.  All winter long I

keep some long white antlers on the mantel and love the look. Changing the decor for

spring and summer makes me look forward to putting the antlers back up there when ‘fall’

comes around.

This week I stopped in to Home Goods with my mom and spotted this turquoise covered

cake stand.  I debated for like two seconds when to buy it and just had to have it for the

kitchen island.  My kitchen island is very large so I need substantial pieces to place on it.

 This is very large and the color is the perfect accent for the white cabinetry.

I placed a vintage glass rabbit, from Goodwill, along with some moss and eggs, inside the

dome.  I’m looking forward to putting cakes, sweets and decor on display!

Finally, here’s the kitchen table decor…for now.

I’ve had this set for years and noticed, when I pulled them out of the cabinet,  one bowl was

missing!  Of course, no one has said a word.

I love changing out the kitchen table centerpiece on a regular basis.

 It requires minimal effort and keeps things fresh.
