While I’m currently vacationing in Colorado, I’ve shopped with my pal, Goodwill Industries of Denver blogger, DeeAnna Soicher, made a detour into a Goodwill store in Golden, then rounded out my Goodwill Tour with a visit to a fabulous Goodwill store in Colorado Springs.
In addition to purchasing a couple of things for myself in Colorado Springs, I picked up three green vases for my mom’s home in southern Colorado.
While my mom is a country girl at heart and has what we city folk refer to as “rustic”, here, at her home in rural Colorado, rustic is everyday living and part of the small town charm. Her living room is one room that’s not so rustic and is updated with decor she finds when she goes to the big city.
When I saw these vases on the shelves at Goodwill I thought they would make a nice addition to her living room. The walls and furniture in this room are all neutral colors, while the rest of the room has touches of teal green. I brought the vases to her and she decided they would make a nice arrangement on the fireplace right next to her crystal candlesticks she purchased on a visit to Phoenix, at Goodwill of Central Arizona. She has very clear ideas of what she does and doesn’t like and will voice her opinion without a second thought, so score one for me with this purchase!
While the Goodwill vases are new, the rustic finishes are always present in her home. If you look closely, the bumpy texture of the walls indicate they are made of adobe, mud and straw bricks, making the walls 6 inches thick. This type of building material is customary in this area. The adobes create an insulation, keeping the homes nice and toasty in the winter and cool, without a/c, in the summer. I’ve been spending many hours enjoying the cool temperatures in the house, savoring every minute so I can recall the comfort when I head back to the scorching heat of Phoenix, I hope my visualization technique works because I fearcely dread the heat!
Here’s my Mom’s Goodwill shopping list:
Green vases: Small $3.99
Medium: $4.99
Large: $6.99
Crystal candlesticks: $1.99 each
I hope your summer is full of thrifty finds,
The Goodwill Gal

I was invited by DeeAnna, from Goodwill Denver, to join her and a group of thrifters for a day of Goodwill shopping. I couldn’t resist that invitation, and the cooler temps., so I packed my bags and headed to Denver. Click the link above and take a look to see how we shopped until we dropped and met a few new friends along the way!
Long live thrifting and Goodwill!
Here’s one of my many Goodwill purchases from My Goodwill Tour in Denver. A red, white and blue ice bucket for $2.50. There’s a lot of entertaining possibilities on the horizon for this bucket! Hope you’re having a wonderful day! The Goodwill Gal.
This is the first stop in my Goodwill Tour today in Denver. I’ve met some nice ladies today and have 3 more stops to go! Long Live Thrifting and Goodwill!
Here’s a little more Pottery Barn inspiration on a Goodwill budget.
With just a quick switch of napkins and a change of centerpiece, my coastal table scape, (seen HERE) has been transformed for an early start to some 4th of July entertaining.
Have you seen how my homemade 3 tier stand has transformed from Halloween to Easter? I’m getting the most use out of this $12 stand I made with items straight out of Goodwill.
As you can see, I love creating magazine inspired table scapes for my family without the guilt of spending hundreds. I love finding ways to use every dish, bowl, vase, jar, etc. every way I can think of. When I can’t seem to come up with one more idea and it has been sitting on a shelf for too long, it’s time to go back to Goodwill for another journey.
The table is set, now all I need is a menu? What will I serve?
Enjoying my freedom of shopping Goodwill,
The Goodwill Gal
The Goodwill Gal on:
The 3 tier stand I purchased from Goodwill ($6.39) continues to make it’s journey in and out of my spray painting station and into another decorating scene. This time, I sprayed it red for a patriotic theme for the outdoor grill area at My House of Goodwill.
This stand has gone from dark brown, to creamy white, to light blue for spring and now, red. I love to find versatile pieces from Goodwill just so I can transform them to adapt to any presentation. For me, it’s all about cost per use and money well spent.
Imagine my excitement when I pulled the container labeled patriotic decor from my lair and found a bag of new red, white and blue decorative balls from Goodwill. They were marked $4.99, but with this coupon from Goodwill of Central Arizona, I paid $3.99. I don’t remember buying them but I’m sure it was months ago. I’m so glad I put them in my cart, they’re the perfect pieces for my newly painted 3 tier rack.
It’s Christmas in July for this Goodwill Gal!
Take care,
The Goodwill Gal
My love for the trifle bowl continues.
I bought this trifle bowl from Goodwill for $4.79 and have used it more for decorating than it’s intended use of making edible treats.
My summer decor involves a lot of coastal touches throughout my home and with this trifle bowl, I’ve added one more piece to my seaside theme.
I’ve repurposed it in my guest bathroom to hold sponges and soap (click HERE) and also used it to bring a bit of greenery to my living room. (click HERE)
This time I poured some fine white sand into the bowl, added a candle and some glass pieces, which believe it or not, came in a small bag from Goodwill.
I’ve gotten one more use out of my Goodwill trifle bowl and I didn’t have to lift a finger in the kitchen. Happy me!
Do you have any ideas for my trifle bowl? Better yet, have you repurposed a trifle bowl? I love to see the photos!
’til next time,
The Goodwill Gal
